DBT-SUD is an expansive treatment for individuals who have complex mental health issues and co-occurring substance use disorders and wish to reduce their use. There are adaptations to the DBT-SUD program specific to individuals struggling with substance use.
Goals of this program include:
Building a Life Worth Living without reliance on substances
Increasing motivation to reduce or stop use
Increasing awareness of urges to use and learning skills to tolerate and reduce them
Increasing awareness of high-risk situations and other factors that contribute to use and relapse
Structuring the environment to support a life of recovery
Reduce mental health symptoms that commonly co-occur with substance use disorders
